”I felt that I had to develop my own sound in the
same way as Benny Benjamin, Al Jackson, Ringo Starr, and Charlie
Watts had developed their own sounds. I always like the simplicity
of their playing, the essentially ingredient to make a record work.
Those kinds of drummers are the best kind. People think that if
it's simple, something is lacking, and that's not true. It takes
more to be able to play that way. Don't confuse simplicity with
stupidity. It's not because you're inept that you're playing
simply, it's because you're smart as your accompanying other
musicians. There is nothing better than hypnotising an audience
with a groove and you'll never get a better sensation! Listen to
the song and it will dictate to you what you should be playing.” –

Drummer - Issue 36, October 2006
